Land & building

Princess Durru Shehvar College of Nursing is housed in an exclusive four storied building with a built up area of 20,000 sq. ft. situated in the campus of Princess Durru Shehvar Children's & General Hospital, Purani Haveli, Hyderabad.

 
   
 


The college has fully furnished independent offices for the Principal and the Vice Principal with separate offices for the accounts section and the administrative staff.

  
   
Staff rooms, PDSCON  
   
 


Fully furnished separate staff rooms are provided for the five departmental heads and their respective staff at PDSCON.  In addition, a common staff room is also available for conducting meetings and other group activities

The spacious, well ventilated  and well stocked library of PDSCON has a good collection of professional books, journals and light reading material for the reference and borrowing convenience of the staff and students.

Spacious well ventilated and furnished class rooms with comfortable seating capacity for 50 students per class is provided for lectures and demonstrations.  Each class is equipped with charts, over head projector and black boards.  Attached toilet and hand washing facilities are also available in each class.

In compliance with the rules of the Indian Nursing Council, PDSCON has several fully equipped laboratories for imparting quality education to the students as follows
  
   

Maternal and Child Health Nursing Lab (MCHN)

  
   
 

Basic skills in maternal health and child care are learnt and practiced by the students in the Nursing Art Laboratory before they are placed in hospitals for clinical practice.  The MCHN lab is well equipped with models, charts, mannequins, nursing material, appliances etc. required for demonstration and practice by the students for conducting procedures in maternal health care and paediatric nursing  procedures.
  
   
Community Health Nursing Lab (CHN)  
   
 


Community Health Nursing (CHN) training is offered through classroom teaching and demonstrations. This is followed by practice in the CHN lab for training the students in family and community health care and health education.   Hands-on training is also given in the preparation of material for teaching aids, projects for health education, sex and family life education, prevention of diseases and school health programmes.

Students are involved in conducting health and immunization camps and holding exhibitions on health education. Specially designed and equipped CHN kits are provided to the students before they are sent to the community for practice.  Experiences in CHN are provided to the students in Government and community Health Centers both in the urban and the rural areas.
  
   

Fundamentals of Nursing Arts Lab (FON)

  
   
 


Nursing is an art and a science that needs a lot of practice. To perform life saving nursing procedures, PDSCON has a spacious and fully equipped Nursing Art Laboratory that includes chase doll, patient simulator, life sized mannequins for pulmonary resuscitation and other audio – visual teaching aids to reinforce classroom teaching.   The students are given ample time to practice all the nursing procedures in readiness to expose them in the hospital for their clinical practice. 

 
   
Medical Surgical Lab  


A fully equipped Medical Surgical lab with all facilities as per the INC norms provides the students excellent opportunities to learn and practice medical – surgical procedures.

  
   
Nutrition Lab  
   
 
   


The students are trained in planning, preparation and
service of therapeutic diets under the supervision and guidance of a trained dietician in a fully equipped  nutrition lab with the state of art infrastructure.  Students are also trained in the art of nutrition

Students have access under the supervision of experienced staff and lab technicians to the Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Microbiology

The students are trained in the application and use of computers under expert guidance in health care and nursing education.  Adequate numbers of computers, printers, scanners backed by UPS systems and generators are provided in the computer lab.  The students are also trained in the use of the Internet.

Medical & Health Care Facilities  
A fully equipped sick room with a trained nurse is available on campus for the care of sick students in emergencies.  The students of PDSCON also avail facilities of Princess Durru Shehvar Children's & General Hospital for medical treatment when ever required.   First aid boxes are available in the office, hostel and buses for emergency care. 

A thorough medical examination of the students is conducted at the beginning of the academic year with the necessary follow up.  Immunization program is an integral part of the health care program at PDSCON.  Medical and family welfare counseling is carried out by professionals at the institution.
  
   
Transport Facility  
   
 

The Princess Durru Shehvar College of Nursing has its own transport facilities comprising of buses and vans to transport students for all outdoor visits.
  
   
Hostel  
   
 

The hostel of PDSCON is located near the college campus in a three storeyed building with a built up area of 8,000 sq.ft.  

The  hostel has spacious and well ventilated dormitories with toilets, visitor’s room, study hall and dinning halls.  Each student is provided with an individual cot and cupboard. 

 The hostel has a spacious kitchen with refrigerators, water coolers with aqua guard filters, pressure cookers, blenders, mixers, grinders, steamers and all gadgets required for a modern kitchen to cater to the needs of the hostellers. 

Weekly menus for balanced diets for both vegetarians and non non-vegetarians are planned under the expert guidance of  a qualified dietician. 

The hostel is managed by  a full time warden and her assistants with the help of essential staff.  

Security is provided round – the – clock at college campus and at the hostel.
  
   
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES  
   
 
   

Educational programmes on personality development, excursions and field trips, literary activities, games, sports and dramatics are an integral part of the training for the all- round development of the students.   Competitions in sports, art, cultural and literary activities are organized throughout the year.

Students are encouraged to participate in intercollegiate and interstate  competitions. The Students’ Nurses’ Association (SNA) of PDSCON is very active. The elected members of the SNA committee organize programmes of interest for the student community thoughout the year.

All the major festivals, national festivals and important events such as the Freshers Day, Lamp Lighting and the Graduation  Ceremonies are celebrated with gaiety, solemnity and fervour.
